Minister Copps Announces Appointment to the Canada Science and Technology Museum

OTTAWA, June 2, 2003 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps today announced the appointment of Walter R. Parsons, of Ottawa, as a trustee to the Canada Science and Technology Museum Board of Trustees.

During his career, Mr. Parsons has held senior management positions in the dairy industry starting as General Sales Manager of Clark Dairy in 1968. From 1977 to 1979, while being the Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer of Donlands Dairy in Toronto, he also chaired its Management Committee. He returned to Ottawa in 1979, where he became Vice-President and General Manager of Neilson Dairy until 1989. He was later appointed Senior Vice-President and General Manager of Neilson Dairy and served in this capacity until 2000. Mr. Parsons is currently Goodwill Ambassador for Neilson Dairy and Weston Foods.

Mr. Parsons has been involved on the boards of many organizations and in various fundraising activities. His current and past involvements include serving as Board Vice-President of the Riverside Hospital of Ottawa and as Board President of the Ottawa Food Bank and the Friends of the Farm.

The Canada Science and Technology Museum Corporation is responsible for the management of the Canada Science and Technology Museum and for its affiliates, the Canada Agriculture Museum and the Canada Aviation Museum. One of the Corporation's objectives is to discover and share knowledge about Canada's scientific and technological heritage in order to increase understanding and appreciation of the role that science and technology has played, and continues to play, in the transformation of Canada.
