Government of Canada announces funding for the Science East Association

FREDERICTON, September 6, 2003 -- Andy Scott, Member of Parliament (Fredericton), on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced funding of $59,000 for the Science East Association Inc. to help create a bilingual travelling exhibition that highlights Maritime accomplishments in science and engineering.

"The Government of Canada is committed to ensuring that all citizens have access to stories and exhibits that feature Canada's achievements," said Mr. Scott. "Canadians have contributed extensively to the development of our global society and their accomplishments have become part of our Canadian heritage."

The exhibition will travel to museums and science centres throughout the Maritime provinces. Through hands-on exhibits, interactive multimedia presentations, and story boards, the exhibition will depict stories of Maritimers, in the fields of science and engineering, who have made lasting contributions to our knowledge and development as a society.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through the Access and National Outreach component of its Museum Assistance Program. This program provides financial support to Canadian museums and related institutions for projects that foster excellence in museum activities and that facilitate access to the treasures of our collective heritage.

Funding for this project was provided for in the February 2003 federal Budget.
