Government of Canada Announces Funding for the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of New Brunswick

FREDERICTON, December 5, 2003 -- Andy Scott, Member of Parliament (Fredericton), on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced funding of $25,000 for the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of New Brunswick.

"Museums across the country give Canadians access to a significant part of our shared heritage," said Mr. Scott. "They provide valuable information on a variety of subjects such as science, nature, and the arts. The Government of Canada is proud to support local groups who are interested in showcasing our accomplishments, promoting our history, and preserving our scientific heritage."

The funding will enable the Association to conduct a feasibility study to determine the potential of an engineering museum in the greater Fredericton area. The study will focus on market and visitor analysis, operating and fundraising requirements, viability, economic impact, site location, collection needs, and programming.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through the Organizational Development component of the Museums Assistance Program. The Museums Assistance Program provides financial support to Canadian museums and related institutions for projects that foster excellence in museum activities and that facilitate access to the treasures of our collective heritage.

Funding for this project was provided for in the February 2003 federal Budget.
