Minister Frulla Announces Two Appointments to Canada Science and Technology Museum Board of Trustees

OTTAWA, July 5, 2005 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Status of Women Liza Frulla today announced the appointment of Paul Benoit, of Ottawa, Ontario, and Robert W. Mantha, of Cap-Rouge, Quebec, as part-time members of the Board of Trustees of the Canada Science and Technology Museum.

"I am certain that their combined experiences and know-how will be of tremendous benefit to the Canada Science and Technology Museum's Board of Trustees," said Minister Frulla.

Mr. Benoit has a vast experience in commercial aviation and has been President and Chief Executive Officer of the Ottawa International Airport Authority since 1996. He was with Montréal Airports from 1988 to 1996, serving as Vice-President of Marketing and Operations (1995-1996), Vice-President of Marketing and Sales (1992-1995), and Marketing Manager for Transport Canada/Montréal Airports (1988-1992). From 1966 to 1988, he served with Eastern Airlines Inc. in several positions, including Manager of Sales and Service (1981-1986) and Director for Canada (1986-1988). Mr. Benoit is a Past Chair of the Canadian Airports Council and Director on the Board of Directors of the Ottawa Tourism and Convention Authority.

Since 1979, Robert W. Mantha has had a distinguished academic career at Laval University and is currently Associate Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration. In 1978, he was a Research Associate at the International Institute for Management Development in Lausanne, Switzerland. Dr. Mantha holds a master's degree in business administration from the University of British Columbia and a doctorate in the same discipline from the University of Minnesota. He has published many scientific and professional articles and has been a strategic planning advisor at CSA Research.

The Canada Science and Technology Museum Corporation is responsible for preserving and protecting Canada's scientific and technological heritage and promoting and sharing knowledge about that heritage. The Corporation and its three Museums--the Canada Agriculture Museum, the Canada Aviation Museum, and the Canada Science and Technology Museum--tell the stories of Canadian ingenuity and achievement in science and technology and demonstrate how these accomplishments have contributed to the building of our country.
