Minister Frulla Announces Two Appointments to the Canada Science and Technology Museum Board of Trustees

OTTAWA, September 7, 2005 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Status of Women Liza Frulla today announced the appointment of Karn Manhas, of Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, and Narendra Kumar Srivastava, of Moncton, New Brunswick, as part-time members of the Board of Trustees of the Canada Science and Technology Museum.

"We are very fortunate to have these new members bring such a wide range of talents and experience to the Canada Science and Technology Museum's Board of Trustees," said Minister Frulla.

Karn Manhas is a former Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Port Coquitlam—Burke Mountain, serving from 2001 to 2005. He served on the Special Committee of Selection, the Government Caucus Committee on Education, and the Multicultural Committee. Before becoming an MLA, Mr. Manhas was Director of Business Development and Operations Planning for a local commercial/residential property management firm. He was also President of a start-up application software programming company, which he founded and operated in Port Coquitlam. He has also been involved with public consultation work on regional transportation issues. He holds a bachelor of science degree in biology from McGill university. Currently, Mr. Manhas is President of Karyon Projects Corporation.

Narendra Kumar Srivastava is a research professor and former dean of the University of Moncton's Faculty of Engineering. From 1978 to 2002, he was a full professor at the University of Moncton. From 1969 to 1978, he was a professor at the University of Waterloo, Guelph University, Royal Military College, and the University of Moncton. Currently, Mr. Srivastava is the vice president of two international engineering associations (SWEC and IAESS) and the chair of the National Committee on Innovation and Information Technology in Civil Engineering.

The Canada Science and Technology Museum Corporation is responsible for preserving and protecting Canada's scientific and technological heritage and promoting and sharing knowledge about that heritage. The Corporation and its three Museums—the Canada Agriculture Museum, the Canada Aviation Museum, and the Canada Science and Technology Museum—tell the stories of Canadian ingenuity and achievement in science and technology and demonstrate how these accomplishments have contributed to the building of our country.
