Government of Canada Supports Musée Beaulne and the Quebec Anglophone Heritage Network
COATICOOK, October 11, 2005-- Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, Minister responsible for La Francophonie and Member of Parliament (Brossard-La Prairie) Jacques Saada, on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Status of Women Liza Frulla, today announced funding of $18,572 for two organizations based in the Eastern Townships. The funding will allow Musée Beaulne and the Quebec Anglophone Heritage Network to increase and improve their preservation efforts."Preserving our artistic and cultural heritage is essential to a country that proudly retains its roots while looking ahead to its future," said Minister Saada. "I am pleased to support these two organizations in their continued efforts to retain our collective heritage for future generations."
"The Government of Canada is committed to supporting organizations devoted to promoting our unique and diverse heritage," said Minister Frulla. "This funding will help us reach our goal of ensuring that Canadians in all regions have increased access to arts and culture."
Located in Coaticook, Musée Beaulne preserves and displays works of art, costumes and textiles, as well as local heritage artifacts. Of the amount announced, the Musée will receive $7,948 to help establish a permanent location, according to museum standards, to store and preserve a visual arts collection that comprises 107 works on paper, 80 wood sculptures, 84 sculptures, and 24 mixed media works.
The Quebec Anglophone Heritage Network is an umbrella organization that helps promote the history and culture of English-speaking communities in Quebec. It will receive $10,624 to conduct research in rural English-speaking communities throughout the province to discover historic sites and collections.
Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Museums Assistance Program. This program provides financial support to Canadian museums and related institutions for projects that foster excellence in museum activities and that facilitate access to our collective heritage.
Funding for this initiative was provided for in the February 2005 federal budget and is therefore built into the existing fiscal framework.
