Peter Milliken announces grant to the Kingston General Hospital

KINGSTON, August 8, 1996 Peter Milliken, Member of Parliament for Kingston and the Islands, on behalf of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced a federal grant to the Kingston General Hospital Foundation.

The federal grant for $15,000 will be used to defray the costs of undertaking a planning study for the Museum of Health Care for Eastern Ontario. The study will examine both the proposed operational structure and a facility development plan.

"I am pleased to see the involvement and commitment of a community hospital dedicated to the preservation of Canadian heritage," said Mr. Milliken. "Canadian medical history is known around the world and I am pleased that the Government of Canada is able to support this initiative."

The Museums Assistance Program provides financial and technical assistance to Canadian Museums and related institutions for a range of museum activities. Such support ensures access by Canadians to our rich heritage and preservation of nationally significant collections across Canada.

Funding for this project was provided for in the March 1996 federal budget and is therefore built into the existing fiscal framework. This initiative is an example of how this government is prioritizing its spending so that it can better serve Canadians by making efficient use of their tax dollars.
