Appointments to Board of Trustees of Canadian Museum of Nature

OTTAWA, June 30, 2006 - The Honourable Beverley J. Oda, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women, today announced the appointments of Martin Joanisse of Gatineau and Henry Tom of Vancouver as part-time members of the Board of Trustees of the Canadian Museum of Nature.

Martin Joanisse is currently director general of la Coopérative de Développement Économique Communautaire de Gatineau. He has also been president and director general of the Société de Gestion MLJ since 2005 and co-owner of Axion Air Inc. since 2004. He served as director general of Montfort Renaissance Inc. from 2002 to 2005, as director general of Horizons Renaissance Inc. from 1987 to 2004, and as director general of Fondation Horizons Renaissance Inc. from 1990 to 2004.

Mr. Joanisse is a member of la Commission Gatineau, Ville en santé, la Chambre de Commerce de Gatineau, and the Canadian Society of Association Executives.

Henry Tom has been a partner of Cedar Development Corporation, a developer and builder of multi-family homes in Vancouver, since 1989. From 1981 to 1989, he served as property manager of Tom's Enterprises. In 1979, he was a planner with the Town of Pickering, Ontario.

Mr. Tom has been involved with the Canadian Home Builders Association, the First Shaughnessy Advisory Design Panel, the City of Vancouver Heritage Commission, and the Canadian Institute of Planners. He has also been actively involved with the Dr. Sun Yat Sen Garden Society.

The Canadian Museum of Nature is an important federal cultural organization dedicated to increasing interest in, knowledge of, and appreciation and respect for our natural environment throughout Canada and the world.
