REAPPOINTMENTS TO MARINE ATLANTIC INC.

OTTAWA — The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the reappointments of Ms. Peggy Ann Coady and Mr. Arthur Robert Sampson as members of the board of directors of Marine Atlantic Inc., for a period of one year.

“Marine Atlantic Inc. provides high-quality, safe and efficient ferry services between Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador,” said Minister Cannon. “The board will continue to benefit from their combined experience in business, finance and accounting.”

Ms. Peggy Ann Coady has a bachelor of commerce degree and a master of business administration degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador, and is a chartered accountant. She is currently employed as associate dean of academic programs at the Faculty of Business Administration at Memorial University, where she is also assistant professor of accounting. Ms. Coady has been chair of the Audit Committee for Marine Atlantic Inc. since 2002.

Mr. Arthur Robert Sampson is a graduate from Dalhousie University with a bachelor of commerce degree and a bachelor of law degree. He is currently a senior partner with the law firm of Sampson McDougall. In the past, he taught business management and industrial relations courses at the former University College of Cape Breton. Mr. Sampson currently serves as chair of Nexient Learning Inc., a Canadian corporate training company and is governor of the Law Foundation of Nova Scotia. He has served as president of the Cape Breton Barristers’ Society, president of the Sydney and Area Chamber of Commerce, and member of the Federal Judicial Advisory Committee and of the finance committee of the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society.

Marine Atlantic Inc. is a Crown corporation that provides ferry services between Newfoundland and Labrador and Nova Scotia. The company owns and operates four ocean-class vessels. Three passenger ferries provide a vital marine transportation link across the Cabot Strait between Newfoundland and Labrador and mainland Canada along two routes: the constitutional, year-round Port aux Basques to North Sydney route; and the additional summer-season Argentia to North Sydney route. The fourth ship in the company’s fleet is a dedicated commercial vessel.

In 2005, the company’s vessels carried more than 418,000 passengers and close to 87,000 commercial vehicles. Through its day-to-day operations and long-term planning, Marine Atlantic Inc. is committed to providing ferry services that are safe, reliable, efficient and affordable.
