CANADA’S NEW GOVERNMENT FINALIZES
FIRST EVER AIR AGREEMENTS WITH CROATIA AND SERBIA

OTTAWA − The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, and the Honourable David Emerson, Minister of International Trade, today announced Canada’s first air transport agreements with the Republics of Croatia and Serbia for scheduled air service.

"I am pleased to have first-time air transport agreements between Canada and the Republics of Croatia and Serbia," said Minister Cannon. "With direct air links, these agreements will provide more choices and benefit travellers, shippers, air carriers and airports."

"Air transportation is an important enabler for trade and the movement of goods and services," said Minister Emerson. "These agreements will create more opportunities for Canadian business to export and invest in Croatia and Serbia."

Under the agreement with Croatia, carriers from both countries are allowed to serve destinations of their choice in the other country. The agreement with Serbia allows carriers from both countries to provide service to points of their choice in the other country. This agreement will provide rights for each country to designate any number of carriers to operate scheduled air services between the two countries. The agreement also includes a flexible pricing regime, and strong safety and security provisions.

In addition to operating their own aircraft, carriers can provide code-sharing services. Code-sharing is a type of air service where an airline uses the flights of other airlines for transportation for a portion of a passenger’s trip.

These agreements are the first to be signed under the recently announced Blue Sky policy, which will create opportunities for travellers, businesses and the air industry.
