Delegates of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) visited Canada’s west coast naval base as part of the ASEAN-Canada dialogue conference April 4.
The representatives were government officials, typically Assistant Deputy Ministers from Brunei Darussalam, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.
The delegates had a busy schedule beginning with a briefing over coffee with Commodore Roger Girouard, Commander Canadian Fleet Pacific. The group then proceeded on a tour of the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, followed by a tour of HMCS Regina.
Aboard Regina, the ASEAN delegates toured the Operations Room, the Bridge and the Machinery Control Room. They were also given a demonstration on Boarding Operations by the Boarding Team.
The day finished with a lunch at CFB Esquimalt’s Naden Wardroom. The guests appeared to be very pleased with their experience aboard Regina, and they departed with a greater appreciation of Canadian naval operations.
