Veterans, Military, and Cadets Parade Together For Victoria Day

Local veterans, military members, and Cadets will be out in full force Monday, May 22 to commemorate the annual celebration of Queen Victoria’s birthday.  Beginning near the Mayfair Mall at 9 a.m., the parade will proceed up Douglas Street into downtown, ending at Humboldt Street.

Tradition dictates that the band of the senior service fronts the parade, so the Naden Band of Maritime Forces Pacific will be leading the way again this year.  Following the Naden band will be 24 entries comprised of veterans, current serving Regular and Reserve Force members, and various Cadet organizations from around southern Vancouver Island.  Captain(Navy) Mike Williamson, Commander Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt, and the Mayor of Victoria, will take the salute from the reviewing stand in front of City Hall.  At noon, the 5th (British Columbia) Field Regiment Royal Canadian Artillery will fire a 21-gun salute from Ship’s Point parking lot to mark the former Queen’s birthday.  As well, HMC ships in Esquimalt Harbour will dress overall for the day.

Some of the other veteran, military and Cadet organizations participating include:

  • Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans
  • South Vancouver Island Zone Royal Canadian Legion Colour Party
  • Korea Veterans' Association
  • Canadian Scottish Regiment (Princess Mary’s) Pipes & Drums
  • HMCS Malahat
  • Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps
  • Royal Canadian Army Cadets
  • Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadrons
  • Ashton Armouries
