Deemed Never to Have Served

Process to Have File Reviewed

After the Second World War, approximately 14,000 individuals were deemed never to have served because they deserted from the Armed forces. Some individuals may have deserted to avoid combat while others may have wanted to avoid a bureaucratic process (demobilization).

Those who were deemed never to have served and who feel they were treated unjustly can apply to the Department of National Defence for a review of their situation.

Your letter should include your full name, address, phone number, service number and the reason why you did not complete the demobilization process.

Applications will be accepted from surviving individuals who were deemed never to have served or from a member of the immediate family of a deceased individual.
