Québec Unions Join Forces to Support Reservists

MA-06.034 - December 11, 2006

CITY OF QUÉBEC - Commodore Margaret Kavanagh, Commander of the Canadian Forces Health Services Group, and Mr Jean Fournier, Provincial President of the Canadian Forces Liaison Council for Québec, will hold a news conference on Wednesday December 13th at 11 a.m. at the Saint-Malo Armoury in the City of Québec. The armoury is located at 1020 Vincent Massey Blvd.

The Canadian Forces will thank employers and union representatives of ambulance and paramedic services in Québec for their initiative in insuring job protection and seniority for Canadian Forces Reservists.

Ambulance and paramedic services’ employers and the Fédération des travailleurs et travailleuses du Québec (FTQ) signed a collective agreement in June 2006 ensuring job protection and seniority for Canadian Forces Reservists working with these emergency services who may be called to deploy for military duty, at home or abroad. Other unions, such as the Confédération des syndicats nationaux (CSN), followed suit.

Following the news conference, there will be a photo opportunity with Health Services Group Reservists conducting training. In addition, Master-Corporal Paul Franklin, a medical technician from 1 Field Ambulance, will be present to help out with the training session. MCpl Franklin survived a suicide attack in Kandahar earlier this year that resulted in the loss of his legs.

If you are interested in attending the ceremony or in conducting interviews, please call (613) 945-6388 or (418) 844-5000 extension 7641.
