Alternative Fuel Vehicle Technology
The automotive sector has interests in the research and development of
alternative fuel vehicle technologies in response to the long term decline in
world fossil fuels. Moreover, there is the necessity for environmentally clean
technologies to comply with emissions regulations. Alternative fuels generally
refer to propane, natural gas, methanol, ethanol, hydrogen, and electric power
sources. Each fuel has its own properties and support infrastructure
requirements. The design of alt fuel vehicles includes dedicated fuel or
flexible fuel units. Canadian capabilities in alt fuel vehicle technologies
cover a broad range of vehicles and components that are highlighted
here:

Canadian Oxygenated Fuels Association
The Canadian Oxygenated Fuels Association is a not-for-profit
organisation
dedicated to the development and promotion of transportation fuels which reduce
air pollution. Our focus is on fuels which increase their oxygen content by the
addition of alcohols or their ether derivatives. This allows more complete
combustion of the fuel, and thus reduces a number of important toxic
emissions.
