2005-12-02 Measurement Canada's Participation in CAC to ISO TC 176
This document is to inform you of Measurement Canada's participation in the Canadian Advisory Committee (CAC) to ISO (International Organization for Standardization) Technical Committee (TC) 176.
TC/176 is ISO's Technical Committee on Quality Management and Quality Assurance, it is responsible for developing the ISO 9000 series of standards and guidance documents. The secretariat of ISO/TC 176 is held by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC), the ISO recognized member body for Canada, and is administered by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA).
The CAC's role is to provide Canadian input into the development of international standards. The CAC consist of approximately 50 members representing producers, users, consumers, government (regulatory), and general interest groups (universities, associations, etc.)
The CAC has 3 subcommittees:
SC1 - Concepts and Terminology;
SC2 - Quality Systems; and
SC3 - Associated Technology.
Rick Aikens, Senior Program Officer, Innovative Services Directorate (ISD) was approved for participation as a member of the CAC in July of 2004, and has been actively participating as a constructive member. Rick was recently appointed Canadian Chairperson SC1. As subcommittee chair, Rick represents Canada at international plenary meetings, supports and guides working group leaders, and is responsible to ensure Canada's positions are developed in such a way that they are representative of Canada's interest.
