In October 2003, Rick Bartolucci was re-elected for a third term to the Ontario Legislature. Shortly thereafter, he was appointed Minister of Northern Development and Mines.
Well known for his steadfast determination and work ethic, Mr. Bartolucci approaches his ministerial duties with the same zeal and commitment he has demonstrated throughout his 20-plus years of public service to his community and province.
First elected in 1995, Mr. Bartolucci works diligently to ensure issues important to the Sudbury Riding are heard at Queen’s Park. Throughout the years he introduced numerous Private Members’ Bills covering issues ranging from fair taxation, labour, health care and education to government accountability. His Police Memorials Act became law, giving the Legislature the authority to name highway bridges and other structures in memory of fallen police officers.
Mr. Bartolucci has held numerous Critic positions; he served as Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on Estimates, was a member of the Standing Committee on Agencies, Boards and Commissions, and of the Standing Committee on the Legislative Assembly.
In 2002, Mr. Bartolucci was appointed Chief Whip of the Official Opposition (Liberal). He also chaired the Question Period Committee. Prior to becoming Chief Whip, he served as Deputy House Leader.
Mr. Bartolucci also worked as a municipal politician for nine years. He served as Deputy Mayor and contributed as chair and member of numerous municipal government committees.
Before entering provincial politics, he was an educator for thirty years.
Born and raised in Sudbury, Mr. Bartolucci is a graduate of Laurentian University. He and his wife Maureen have two adult children, Angie and Dan.
