The Ontario government and our top business leaders and researchers are boosting jobs and investment at home by promoting our biotechnology sector at Bio Japan 2006 in September.

"Ontario will be taking every opportunity in Japan to drive home the message that Ontario is a leading jurisdiction in biotechnology — and that we have the people, the talent and the commitment to be a global leader," said Premier and Minister of Research and Innovation Dalton McGuinty.

Bio Japan is one of the largest biotechnology conferences in Asia. Last year, it attracted companies and governmental organizations from 17 countries and regions, and more than 20,000 visitors.

The Ministry of Research and Innovation and the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade are working alongside the federal government to promote Ontario companies and researchers through Japan’s bio week. Strategic seminars, company presentations, business partnering meetings, company site visits and networking sessions are taking place in Tokyo from September 10 to 12, 2006, and in Osaka from September 13 to 15, 2006.

An Ontario pavilion at the Bio Japan trade show will also promote the province's thriving life-sciences sector. Ontario’s life sciences industry generates more than $10 billion US in annual revenues, and employs 40,000 people in more than 800 companies in Ontario.

"By creating more opportunities for partnership abroad, we're creating more opportunities for jobs and prosperity back home, and that's building a better quality of life for families across Ontario," Premier McGuinty said.
