Consultation on an Animal Health Strategy for OntarioThe Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) is leading the development of an animal health strategy for Ontario to enhance the competitiveness of the agri-food industry and further safeguard the province against the potentially negative health and economic impacts of animal health issues. A strategic, comprehensive approach for identifying and evaluating the many components of what constitutes the animal health system in Ontario will improve the day-to-day prevention, early detection, and timely response to animal health risks. An important step in the process of developing this strategy is province-wide consultation with stakeholders, which will be held during fall 2006. The consultation will examine a broad range of animal health issues that may be part of the strategy including legislation, infrastructure, resources, programming, and roles and responsibilites in safeguarding animal health.
