    Immigration and Settlement

Each year, Ontario welcomes more than half of all immigrants to Canada. Immigration is vital to Ontario’s growth. Newcomers play a key role economically, socially, and culturally in making Ontario strong and prosperous. The Ontario government is committed to helping newcomers integrate quickly into the workforce and society.

Through the Newcomer Settlement Program, the ministry supports community organizations to provide settlement, orientation, job-finding workshops and other direct settlement services to more than 125,000 newcomers that arrive in communities across Ontario each year.

The ministry leads the provincial implementation of the Canada-Ontario Immigration Agreement, signed on November 21, 2005 by the federal and Ontario Government Immigration Ministers, and co-ordinates the development of provincial strategies to further Ontario’s goals in immigration and settlement.
