About the MinistryThe Ministry of Intergovernmental Affairs (MIA) is a policy-oriented ministry that provides strategic advice and support to the Premier, the Minister and Cabinet on intergovernmental issues across Canada and relevant international issues around the world. The ministry is organized to provide support in four areas: Canadian Intergovernmental Relations, Intergovernmental Policy Coordination, International Relations and Protocol, and Communications. Minister Bountrogianni told Senators that Canada's fiscal arrangements must provide fairness for all Canadians, and that the federal Equalization program must be restored to its principle-based roots. November 15, 2006. In a statement before the Ontario Legislature, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs Dr. Marie Bountrogianni announced the launch of a new website - www.fairness.ca. Fairness.ca calls on the federal government to address the fiscal imbalance in a way that's fair to all Canadians, including the 39 per cent of Canadians that live in Ontario. Minister Bountrogianni encouraged all MPPs to join the Premier's fight for fairness. November 9, 2006. STRATFORD — Ontario Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs Dr. Marie Bountrogianni and Stratford Mayor Dan Mathieson today welcomed Heads of Consular Posts, the world's representatives to the province, to Southern Ontario. October 16, 2006 TORONTO - The Province of Ontario and the State of Baden-Wuerttemberg have today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for cooperation. The MOU signals the intent of both jurisdictions to further expand the close relationship that has existed for many years. Both jurisdictions have committed to share best practices and expertise, and to strengthen economic, educational and other ties for the people of both provinces. September 22, 2006 Ontario Minster of Intergovernmental Affairs, the Honourable Dr. Marie Bountrogianni, appeared before Parliament’s Special Committee on Senate Reform on September 21, 2006. Minister Bountrogianni told senators that Ontario would prefer that the federal government focus on those priorities that matter most to Canadians, including health care, education and infrastructure, rather than engaging in discussions to reform Canada’s Senate. July 13, 2006 A report summarizing the outcomes of A Strong Ontario for a Strong Canada, a one-day summit on fiscal imbalance held in Toronto on June 21, 2006, was released today. The report shows that the summit's participants - representing a broad range of Ontario sectors - agree that Canada's current fiscal arrangements must be changed to better promote Ontario's and Canada's competitiveness and prosperity. June 28, 2006 Resolving the fiscal imbalance is crucial to ensure Canada remains prosperous and competitive, Dr. Marie Bountrogianni, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, said today. June 15 , 2006 The federal government has more money than it needs to meet its responsibilities, while the provinces and territories don't have enough to meet their own, was the message brought to the London Chamber of Commerce today by Dr. Marie Bountrogianni, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs. |
