Ontario's taxes are largely calculated and paid on a self-assessment basis. The Ministry maintains the integrity of this self-assessment system through taxpayer information services, such as providing up-to-date tax bulletins and organizing sales tax seminars, and facilitating an independent objections review. Non-compliance and tax evasion are discouraged through audits, investigations and collection procedures.
