SUMMER COMPANY GRANTS FOR NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS

NOTE: The deadline for submissions to the Summer Company Grants for Non-profit Organizations program has now passed. Please continue to check our web site for updated information about future calls for proposals.

Summer Company Overview

The Summer Company program has been in operation for the past five years, delivered by Ontario’s network of 44 Small Business Enterprise Centres. The program provides training, funding and mentoring to Ontario students who wish to start a full time business over the summer and who are returning to school full-time in the fall.

The program is currently being delivered to about 250 students per year. The Ministry wishes to raise this in areas that are not currently being served by Small Business Enterprise Centres.

The Ministry will select additional delivery organizations from community partners/youth organizations to work with students in areas not being served by Small Business Enterprise Centres.

Program Objectives

The Ontario government requires additional delivery partners to expand its successful Summer Company program to audiences not currently being adequately served. The Ministry will consider proposals from non-profit groups currently active in some/all of the following target groups:

1. Youth in rural or remote areas not currently being served by the network of Small Business Enterprise Centres.

A complete list of Small Business Enterprise Centre locations is available.

2. Distinct groups that are traditionally under served.

Ethnic, language or other groups including at risk youth that are specifically targeted by your association and which are not traditionally targeted by Small Business Enterprise Centres.

3. Additional youth in large urban centres.

In some of the larger cities in Ontario there may be room in the Summer Company market for extra delivery organizations in addition to the local Small Business Enterprise Centres. These additional initiatives will only be considered if the proposal targets specific communities or groups where the delivery organization is already active and has a relationship with youth groups which are traditionally underserved. This includes at-risk youth.

Who Can Apply

Proposals will only be accepted from Not for profit organizations that are legal entities and have an operating presence in Ontario.

National organizations that have an operating presence in Ontario or Ontario-based, including local/municipal not for profit organizations are eligible to apply, including:

  • Community Organizations
  • Volunteer Organizations
  • Boards of Education
  • Post-secondary institutions

Proposals will be accepted from local or province-wide organizations that meet all eligibility criteria. Priority will be given to those organizations that have demonstrated successful delivery of community programs, especially those for youth, and have a well-developed network of key stakeholders and private sector partners.
