April 17, 2006 ATTORNEY GENERAL ANNOUNCES JUDICIAL APPOINTMENTS
New Judges To Preside In Parry Sound And Sault Ste. Marie
TORONTO Attorney General Michael Bryant announced today the appointment of Andrew Buttazzoni and Lawrence Klein as judges to the Ontario Court of Justice. "These individuals have a depth of experience that will enable them to contribute significantly to the bench," said Bryant. "These appointments demonstrate the excellence of the Ontario Court of Justice." Mr. Justice Buttazzoni was called to the Bar in 1984, and has been in private practice in Sudbury for 22 years, litigating in both trial and appellate courts. Since 1990, he has specialized in criminal law. He has been a guest speaker at professional conferences and has spoken on several occasions to local high schools. He has been active in the community, including serving as director for the board of St. Joseph’s Foundation in Sudbury and is a member of the Medical Bursary capital campaign for the Northern Ontario School of Medicine. Called to the Bar in 1980, Mr. Justice Klein has been in general practice in North Bay for 25 years, practising in both criminal and family courts. Since 1980, he has also been a part-time prosecutor for the Ministry of Transportation. He has been the local representative for the Office of the Children’s Lawyer and a deputy judge for Small Claims Court. Mr. Justice Klein has also served on the local Legal Aid Ontario area committee. He was a founding member of the Nipissing Collaborative Family Lawyers Association and served on the executive of the Nipissing Law Association. Chief Justice Brian W. Lennox has assigned Mr. Justice Buttazzoni to preside in Sault Ste. Marie and Mr. Justice Klein to preside in Parry Sound, effective April 26, 2006. Bryant has appointed 46 judges since the McGuinty government was sworn in on October 23, 2003. - 30 -
