Family Health Teams
Family Health Teams are a key component of the government's plan to build a health care system that delivers on three priorities - keeping Ontarians healthy, reducing wait times and providing better access to doctors and nurses. Since April, 2005, the McGuinty government has approved 150 Family Health Teams located across the province in both urban and rural settings. It is expected that these 150 teams will be operational by 2007/2008 and will improve access to primary care for more than 2.5 million Ontarians in 112 communities. The teams include an interdisciplinary team of physicians and other providers such as nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers and dieticians all working together to see more patients and to keep them healthy. Here in their own words, are health care providers, talking about their Family Health Teams.
