Information on government health and long-term care programs and services is available from this page. A short alphbetical index is shown at left.

Addictions
Services are available for you if you need help to deal with an alcohol, drug or gambling addiction.

Assistive Devices
This program provides financial assistance to Ontario residents with long-term physical disabilities to help them get equipment and supplies they need for independent living.

Children's Health
Information on government programs to help improve the health and wellbeing of children.

Drug Programs
Information on programs that finacially assist Ontario residents to obtain prescription medications.

Emergency Health Services
This branch directs the provision of land and air ambulance services across Ontario.

Emergency Management Unit
The Emergency Management Unit (EMU) ensures a state of readiness for an emergency of any sort that has health implications (for example, a power outage, a biological accident, or contaminated water supply). Information is available on infectious diseases, emergency planning and preparedness.

French Language Health Services
This office ensures that services in the Ontario health system are available in French whenever needed.

Health Advisories and Travel Health
Information about Health Advisories, Air Quality, Food and Water Safety and Travel Health links.

Health Care Professionals : Regulation
All regulated health professions have governing colleges that set the standard for skills, knowledge and behaviour for their members. You can contact these colleges to find a health care professional or to make a complaint about care that you received.

HIV and AIDS
Information about HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus), the virus that attacks certain cells in the immune system and causes a number of symptoms and illnesses, including AIDS, the most advanced form of HIV disease.

Immunization
Three new publicly funded vaccines have been added to the recommended schedule of routine childhood immunizations : vaccines for chicken pox, meningococcal meningitis and pneumococcal disease.

Influenza Immunization Program
Influenza is a serious and highly contagious infections disease from which we can protect ourselves. The influenza vaccine is once again available free of charge to all Ontario residents and is the single most effective way to avoid getting the flu.

Mental Health
Information about the programs and services that are available to those with mental illness and their families.

Midwifery
A midwife is a primary caregiver, which means that she can provide all the care necessary for a healthy woman and her baby throughout pregnancy, birth and for six weeks afterward.

Your Health Care Team – Focus on Nursing
A public education campaign is being launched that focuses on retaining and attracting nurses. The campaign seeks to debunk myths and stereotypes about the nursing profession. At the same time the communication to Ontarians will acknowledge the significant and growing contribution of our nurses in the delivery of health care.

Ontario Health Insurance Plan
The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care pays for a wide range of medically necessary services for Ontario residents.

Hepatitis C
Hepatitis C is a viral infection that is carried in the blood and can cause severe damage to the liver.

Organ and Tissue Donation
Organ donation is the gift of life and hope. Find out more about becoming a donor.

Public Health
Public health focuses on three areas: preventing conditions that may put health at risk, early detection of health problems, and changing peoples and societies attitudes and practices regarding lifestyle choices.

Rabies
The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care works with local Public Health Units and the Ministry of Natural Resources to raise awareness of the presence of rabies in the province.

Seniors' Care : Home, Community and Residential Care Services for Seniors
Care programs provide a variety of health-related services that help to support people at home or in facility-based care.

Telehealth Ontario
Telehealth Ontario is a free, confidential telephone service you can call to get health advice or general health information from a Registered Nurse, 24 Hours a day, 7 days a Week.

West Nile Virus
The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care works with local Public Health Units and Health Canada to monitor the presence of West Nile Virus in the province.
