ARNPRIOR – The McGuinty government is investing in expanded emergency care to better serve the needs of patients at Arnprior and District Memorial Hospital and Kemptville District Hospital, Health and Long-Term Care Minister George Smitherman announced today.

”These investments reflect the government's commitment to provide patients with state-of-the-art facilities to better meet their needs now and in the future,” said Smitherman. ”We want to ensure that people have access to quality health care as close to home as possible.”

The government will be providing 50 per cent of the total sharable cost to the emergency departments for Arnprior and District Memorial Hospital and Kemptville District Hospital, up to a maximum grant of $2.7 million in Arnprior and $5.1 million in Kemptville. The Kemptville redevelopment will also enhance that hospital's ambulatory care services.

”These investments are part the McGuinty government's plan to modernize hospitals, reduce wait times and upgrade medical facilities and equipment in the Arnprior and Kemptville areas and right across the province,” said Smitherman.

”We are extremely pleased with the McGuinty government's commitment to this hospital,” said Arnprior and District Memorial Hospital CEO Cholly Boland. ”Today's investment will improve the service we provide to our patients and help us to maintain the high quality of health care we deliver to our community.”

”The McGuinty Government's investment in the redevelopment of the Emergency Department and Ambulatory Care facilities reflects a strong shared commitment to building healthier communities,” said Kemptville Hospital CEO Colin Goodfellow.

These initiatives are part of the McGuinty government's plan to build a health care system that delivers on three priorities - keeping Ontarians healthy, reducing wait times and providing better access to doctors and nurses.
