Wait Times in Ontario

In the table below you will find the provincial wait times for five key health services. The data is based on procedures completed for the most current time period, at hospitals that are participating in the Wait Time Strategy, accounting for more than 80 per cent of Ontario’s total cases for these five services.

To better understand the data on this web site, how it was calculated and its limitations, please read the Wait Times Data Guide.

What wait time is measured?

Ontario measures the wait time from when a patient and surgeon decide to proceed with surgery or exam, until when the actual procedure is completed.

MEDIAN WAIT TIME: The point at which half the patients have completed surgery or have had their exam, and the other half are still waiting.

AVERAGE WAIT TIME: The average length of time a patient waited to complete surgery or have their exam. Averages may be influenced by one or two very unusual cases of extremely short or long wait times.

90% COMPLETED WITHIN: The point at which 90 per cent of the patients have completed surgery or have had their exam, and the other 10 per cent are still waiting.
