Repatriation Program : Additional Postgraduate Medical Training Positions in Ontario

Attention : Are you interested in practicing in Canada?

The Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term care is funding training positions to recruit physicians who have completed postgraduate residency training and require up to two years of additional training to meet the certification requirements of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC).

Upon graduation, physicians will be required to practice in an area approved by the Ministry as underserviced for their specialty for a period of time equal to the length of additional Ontario training received through the program. The Ministry will offer assistance to physicians to obtain an employment agreement upon request.

This program is open to graduates of Canadian, International or U.S. medical schools.

To be eligible, you must :

  • be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant;
  • be a graduate of an accredited medical school;
  • have completed postgraduate residency training in an accredited training program or one that has been assessed by the RCPSC;
  • require up to two years of additional residency training as determined by the RCPSC to meet the national certification requirements in the candidate's specialty;
  • receive an offer of a postgraduate training appointment. Eligibility candidates should contact the university postgraduate medical education office at one or more of the five Ontario medical schools to apply for a postgraduate residency position.

Residency training in Ontario is full-time. General specialists who wish to pursue sub-specialty training are not eligible for this program.

The next training start date is July 1, 2006. The ministry will accept candidate packages up to March 1, 2006 and candidates will be notified of a decision in March/April 2006. Late applications will be accepted if there are remaining positions.

If you meet all of the above criteria and are interested in obtaining an applicant information package, please contact :
