Long-Term Care Redevelopment
To address the health care needs of Ontario's growing and aging population, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care is expanding and modernizing its long-term care facility system. Thousands of new long-term care beds are being built and existing beds are being redeveloped in older long-term care facilities that do not meet legislated structural standards. In early 2000, the ministry established a new unit - the Long-Term Care Redevelopment Project - to provide a one-window, client-focused organization dedicated to development of long-term care beds. It is working with other ministries, municipalities and stakeholders to facilitate this major undertaking. One of the steps that the ministry has taken to ensure the success of the long-term care bed implementation initiative is providing all interested parties with useful and timely information on various aspects of the development and operation of new and rebuilt long-term care beds. We hope you find the information here helpful - whether you are an operator developing new beds or preparing your new facility for occupancy, a professional looking for information on the distribution of the new beds and their development status, or a consumer interested in finding out about existing facilities across the province and the new beds coming to specific communities. For details on individual admission into a long-term care facility, please see the pages on Community Care Access Centres.
