![]() International Medical Graduates
The Government of Ontario recognises the valuable contribution that qualified International Medical Graduates (IMGs) make to our health care system. Initiatives that enable more IMGs to practice in Ontario benefit all of us. That is why we have significantly increased opportunities for IMGs in Ontario in 2004/05 and are providing $26 million to support, assess and train IMGs. Ontario's Ministry of Health and Long Term Care is pleased to announce that there are now up to 200 assessment and training positions available for qualified International Medical Graduates. The screening and selection processes to access these positions have also been improved. IMGs who are residents of Ontario, or require postgraduate training, must apply for positions through IMG Ontario. Experienced physicians who currently practice outside of Ontario may be eligible for the new Registration through Practice Assessment (RPA) program. Applying to IMG Ontario :
IMG Ontario began accepting applications for IMG training and assessment positions in June 2004 for all 200 assessment and training positions commencing in 2005. Under this system, all IMGs will pass through an integrated screening and selection process that will direct qualified physicians to the most appropriate type of assessment or training leading to registration and practice in Ontario. IMG Ontario is also developing support services to assist IMGs with their applications, and training needs. The ministry recommends monitoring the IMG Ontario website, or contacting the program for updated information. Candidates interested in the programs offered by IMG Ontario may access general information and applications :
Active, independent physicians who have been in full-time practice for a minimum of five consecutive years, (excluding postgraduate or fellowship positions, or other training positions, etc.), and practice/communicate and keep records in English and/or French.
