More than 1700 people work for the Ministry of Education during the school year*. Major divisions within the ministry are:

• Strategic Planning and Elementary/Secondary Programs
• Elementary/Secondary Business and Finance
• Instruction and Leadership Development
• French-Language Education and Educational Operations
• Corporate Management and Services

The ministry also oversees the following agencies, boards and commissions:

• Minister's Advisory Council on Special Education
• Education Quality and Accountability Office
• Languages of Instruction Commission of Ontario
• Parent Voice in Education
• Ontario Educational Communications Authority (TVOntario)
• Ontario Special Education Tribunal (English and French)
• Provincial Schools Authority

A more recent and vitally important addition to the ministry is the Literacy and Numeracy Secretariat, charged with the mandate of bringing new levels of achievement to Ontario’s students.
