Liz Sandals

Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Government Services

Liz Sandals was elected to the Ontario legislature in 2003.

Prior to this, Sandals was elected to her local public school board in 1988 and was re-elected four times. She served as vice-chair and chair of the board and was president of the Ontario Public School Board Association (OPSBA) from 1998 to 2002. She also sat on the board of directors of the Canadian School Boards Association as Ontario's representative. In recognition of her work as OPSBA president, Sandals was selected as the first recipient of the Outstanding Contribution to Education Award by the Ontario Principals' Council.

Sandals has also been active with a wide range of community groups, serving as a committee member with the Chamber of Commerce and canvassing for the Canadian Cancer Society and the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal.

She began her career as a computer programmer/analyst at the University of Guelph, eventually teaching computer science at the university. She has also taught at a school for the developmentally delayed in Alberta.

Sandals grew up in Guelph and received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Guelph and a Master of Mathematics degree from the University of Waterloo. She and her husband, David, have two children, Richard and Allison.
