Rye production has traditionally been centered in Western Canada, with Saskatchewan usually reporting the highest rye acreage. Only a small percentage of Saskatchewan's farmers are rye growers, even though Saskatchewan is the largest producer of rye.

In 2004, 190,000 acres were seeded to both spring and fall rye, producing over 165,000 tonnes and the value of exported rye was $11.2 M
