Mark Wartman was raised in a number of communities throughout Saskatchewan. He graduated from Thom Collegiate in North Regina in 1969.

In 1975 he graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology, and in 1979 he received a Master of Divinity degree from St. Andrew's College in Saskatoon. Mr. Wartman served as a United Church minister for 10 years in several rural Saskatchewan communities and for a further 10 years at St. James United Church in Regina.

Mr. Wartman was first elected to the Saskatchewan Legislature in 1999 to represent the constituency of Regina Qu’Appelle Valley.

Mr. Wartman was first appointed to Cabinet on October 12, 2001, as Minister of Highways and Transportation.

On February 25, 2004 Mr. Wartman was appointed Minister of Agriculture, and Food.

In addition, Mr. Wartman serves as Vice-Chairman of the Saskatchewan Grain Car Corporation and is the Minister Responsible for Wascana Centre Authority.

Mark is married to Gail Wartman, a Regina lawyer. They have two children.
