Welcome to the Faculty of Information &
Media Studies at Western University

The Faculty of Information and Media Studies, dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about media, communications and information technologies, is a vibrant, expanding Faculty comprising more than 45 full-time faculty members and 22 non-academic staff. FIMS offers strong programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels and is linked to the public and private sectors and to community organizations, in an academic environment characterized by interdisciplinarity, collaboration, creative inquiry, and critical thinking.

The Faculty currently offers an undergraduate program in Media, Information and Technoculture (MIT) with an enrolment of approximately 900 students, and a combined degree/diploma program with Fanshawe College with an enrolment of 200 students. FIMS also offers an undergraduate degree in Media and the Public Interest - the only program of its kind in Canada. Graduate programs offered include a Master of Media in Journalism and Communication, master’s and doctoral programs in Library and Information Science, MA and doctoral degrees in Media Studies, and joint graduate degree programs in Popular Music and Culture and Health Information Science. The University of Western Ontario is one of Canada’s foremost research-intensive universities with some 30,000 full-time equivalent students.

Certificate and Diploma Programs

FIMS offers current students and graduates a way to boost their professional or academic careers through obtaining a Certificate or Diploma in Digital Communication. The certificate is intended for current undergraduate students, while the diploma is open to those who have already completed an undergraduate degree.
