The following instructions detail how to disable cookies for common versions of Internet Explorer and Netscape. For older browser versions or browsers not found on this list please refer to the help files of that specific browser.
Disabling Cookies
Internet Explorer 5.x
- Click on the "Tools" menu and select "Internet Options"
- Select the "Security" tab
- Click on the "Custom Level" button
- Scroll to the "Cookies" category and select "Disable" for stored and per-session cookies
- Click OK
Internet Explorer 6.0
- Click on the "Tools" menu and select "Internet Options"
- Click on the "Privacy" tab
- Click on the "Advanced" button
- Check the box next to "Override automatic cookie handling"
- For first party and third party cookies select "Block"
- To disable session cookies make sure that the box next to "Always allow session cookies" is not selected
- Click OK
Netscape 4.x
- Click on the "Edit" menu and choose "Preferences"
- Select the "Advanced" Category
- In the cookies section select "Disable Cookies" (different releases may use slightly different wording)
- Click OK
Netscape 6
- Click on the "Edit" menu and choose "Preferences"
- Select the "Privacy & Security" Category
- Select "Cookies" in the list
- Select "Disable cookies" (different releases may use slightly different wording)
- Click OK
Deleting Cookies
Users will need to delete the cookie files stored on their computer in order to remove already stored cookies. Please refer to your browser's help files to determine where these files are stored on your computer.
