Pay Equity

You Have Questions Concerning the Pay Equity Agreements?
If you are a public service employee or a health and education sector employee we invite you to contact the Human Resources department of your organization or your union representative.

In Québec, Pay Equity Becomes Reality! The recent pay equity agreements will help us correct past injustices, recognize the full value of the work performed by every employee, as well as truly establish equality between women and men.

-In June 2006, the government reached a historic agreement on pay equity in the Québec health, education and public service sectors! This agreement concerns more than 360,000 workers, mainly women, who will receive salary adjustments. In the sectors of health and education, these adjustments will average 5.97% while adjustments in the public service will average 5.04%. Salary adjustments will be retroactive to November 21, 2001. The government plans to pay all retroactive amounts for the period spanning from November 2001 to November 2006 in a single instalment in March 2007.

For more information on the agreement in the health, education and public service sectors, please read the Pay Equity Today newsletter.

-In September 2006, the chair of the Conseil du trésor and minister responsible for Government Administration, Ms. Monique Jérôme-Forget, jointly with the minister of Families, Seniors and the Status of Women, Ms. Carole Théberge, announced the conclusion of a pay equity agreement in the sector of educational childcare services. For more information on this agreement, please read the press release (French only).
