After a three-year decline, Québec exports to the West South Central U.S. (Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma) are once again on the rise.
In 2005, Québec companies sold $3.3 billion worth of goods in the region — a slight increase compared to 2004, when sales totalled $3.1 billion. However, these levels are well below those of the early part of the decade when exports hit $4.5 billion in 2001.
The giant state of Texas accounts for 75% (or $2.4 billion) of Québec’s exports to the West South Central U.S. In 2005, the main products exported to Texas were aircraft and helicopters. Oklahoma ($332.5 million) is our second largest export market, followed by Arkansas ($315.6 million) and Louisiana ($172.2 million).
