The listing of new capital investment projects in Ontario is based on a daily media review of public announcements. The emphasis is on investments made by the private sector, mainly industrial and commercial projects. Additional selection criteria include both the declared value of the project and job creation.

• Project value : a minimum of $20M is required for projects in the retail sector and $1M for other types of projects
• Job creation : permanent jobs have to be created at the facility

Validation:
Media reported information is validated through telephone calls to the source and several attempts are made to complete missing information if any. A follow-up is made on each project every six months until the project is completed and effective. Projects that retain an 'announced' status after 1 year are dropped from the database table.

Please note there is a delay between media announcement and publication on this site, reflecting the time needed for verification. Although upwards of 70 per cent of all project outlines result from direct contacts with company representatives or local economic development agencies, errors are possible and may occur.
