Administrative Regions
The province of Québec is divided into
17 administrative regions. This territorial division serves as
a framework for the economic, cultural and social activities of the
different governmental ministries and organizations. Each
administrative region differs from the others with regards to its
geography, natural resources, habitable land, economic activities
and resulting industries.
Each region has its own economy based either on traditional
industries, such as fisheries, forestry, and agriculture, or based
on newer, more recent technologies. This wide variety of industrial
activities contributes greatly to Québec's economic expansion.
Each administrative region of Québec is responsible for
providing all services essential to promoting and maintaining
excellent quality of life for its citizens. Education, social and
health care services, sports and leisure activities as well as
transportation fall under the jurisdiction of the different levels
of government in the region.
Rich culturally, each region of Québec has produced its share of
well-known artistic figures, particularly in the areas of the
performing arts, visual arts and literature. In turn, these artists
have enriched the regions from which they come.
