List of preferred educational background for 2006

This list applies only if you have filed your application before October 16, 2006 (effective date of the new selection grid)

The list of preferred educational backgrounds is primarily intended to promote the selection of candidates who have received training in a promising field, taking into account various criteria such as the placement rate in the area of training.

This list came into effect on October 15, 2006.

Pure sciences

  • Biochemistry
  • Chemistry
  • Probability and statistics
Technical College Level
(DCS - 3 years of full-time study)

Mechanical production

  • Mechanical engineering techniques
  • Composite material processing techniques
  • Plastic material processing techniques
Vocational Secondary Level
(Vocational Diploma - 1 or 2 years of full-time study)

Food and Tourism

  • Retail butcher (900 hours/1 year)

Mechanical production

  • Mould making (AVS—1,185 hours/2 years)
  • Die making (AVS—900 hours/1 year)
  • Machining on numerically controlled tool machines (AVS—885 hours/1 year)
 

 

AVS: Attestation of Vocational Specialization (Vocational Diploma specialty)
DCS: Diploma of Collegial Studies
NOC: National Occupational Classification

* The NOC codes for the various training programs correspond to the basic groups defined in the 2001 National Occupational Classification, which is published by Human Resources and Social Development Canada. Information concerning the content of training programs, the NOC codes for the various training programs and other matters pertaining to the evaluation of Skilled Worker applicants is available through Emploi-Québec’s LMI (Labour Market Information) Web site and the Ministère de l’Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport du Québec’s Inforoute FPT (Vocational and Technical Training) Web site.

This list is authorized by the Minister responsible for the Act respecting Immigration to Québec for the purpose of applying the Regulation respecting the selection of foreign nationals (R.R.Q. c. I-0.2, r. 5).
