Parent participation in the schools

Most parents wish to follow their children’s progress through elementary and secondary school, and they are encouraged to do so by the school administration. You will therefore be regularly invited to meet with the teachers, find out about school programs and participate in festivities organized by the students.

These meetings are an opportunity for you to express your needs to the individuals looking after your children, to find out how your children are doing in school and if they are having any difficulties, and to meet other parents.

By keeping in close and regular contact with your children’s school, you will find out more about the school’s resources and will be able to call on the services of its professionals as needed.

  PRACTICAL ADVICE
  • By participating in school activities and by talking to your children’s friends and their parents, you will get to know your neighbours, build ties and integrate into the life of your neighbourhood.
  • Do not hesitate to ask for advice from your children’s school administration when it comes time to choose their orientation in high school or college. Although your children can always change course later on, an unfortunate first choice can limit future professional or educational options.
