Helping the foreign worker get settled

You can facilitate the integration of the foreign worker you are hiring by helping him or her with the first steps toward getting settled.

Steps prior to arrival

The foreign worker can learn about Québec prior to departure by attending an information session. These sessions are offered mainly in Europe and South America.

Once the foreign worker has been selected by Québec, he or she can refer to the guide Learning about Québec for useful information at every step of the integration process.

  PRACTICAL ADVICE
Guide the worker through the section Permanent workers to give him or her an idea of what lies ahead and of the different steps required to integrate successfully into Québec society.

First days in Québec

Upon the worker’s arrival, suggest that he or she visit the Immigration-Québec office serving your region in order to obtain integration services (information sessions, support, etc.).

Don’t hesitate to offer your support by:

  • helping him or her find adequate, affordable housing
  • telling him or her how to obtain a health insurance card, social insurance number (SIN) and driver’s license
  • encouraging him or her to take French courses, if necessary
  • introducing him or her to the characteristics and values of the workplace in Québec (mechanisms, rules, cultural codes, laws and regulations).
