Live-in caregiver – Extension or renewal
Do you wish to extend the employment contract of a live-in caregiver? If so, the
live-in caregiver must take steps to renew her Certificat d’acceptation
du Québec (CAQ – Québec Acceptance Certificate) for temporary
work with the Ministère de l'Immigration et des Communautés culturelles
(MICC) as well as to renew her work permit with Citizenship and Immigration Canada
(CIC). See Renewing
the Certificat d’acceptation du Québec and the work permit.
To make this process easier for your live-in caregiver, you must give her a
letter confirming your intention to extend her employment contract
for a set period.

- The live-in caregiver should allow several weeks to obtain her new
work permit.
- If your applicant wants you to represent her in her dealings with
the MICC, you must have a written proxy signed by her. For this purpose,
she can fill in the last section of the Application
for a Québec Acceptance Certificate for Temporary Work entitled
Optional Authorization to Employer.

- The live-in caregiver must renew her CAQ at least two months before
it expires. Upon receipt of her new CAQ, make sure that she also renews
her work
permit.
- If you terminate the employment contract, you must promptly inform
the MICC in writing. You must also give written notice to your live-in
caregiver as prescribed by the Act
respecting labour standards.
