Possibilities offered to the temporary worker’s spouse

Work permit for spouses

In Québec, the spouse of a temporary worker - whether legally married or de facto, of the same or opposite sex - can benefit from a specific procedure to gain access to the job market. An application for a spousal work permit can be made at the same time as the temporary worker’s application.

Part-time studies

It is possible for spouses to enrol in part-time studies. They must obtain a Certificat d’acceptation du Québec (CAQ - Québec Acceptance Certificate) for studies as well as a work permit issued by the Government of Canada. Spouses can submit an application from overseas, at the same time as the temporary worker’s application.

School fees for spouses are then the same as those for Québec students.

French courses

The spouses of temporary workers can take courses reserved specifically for them.
