Learning about the French language in Québec

Québec has the largest francophone population in Canada and in North America. French is the official language, a common symbol of belonging to Québec society and intercultural dialogue. More than 80% of the population speaks French.

 

The official language:
On July 31, 1974, the Official Language Act officially recognized French as the common language of all Quebecers.

In 1977, the government adopted the Charter of the French Language.

 

You speak little or no French?

Being able to express yourself in French will be valuable to create a network of contacts to help you get settled and search for a first job. For this reason, the Québec government considers learning French to be an essential element of your social, cultural and professional integration.
