Teaching approach

MICC courses are intended to make you able to communicate in French in everyday life situations. The courses are designed accordingto the communicative approach.

Communicative approach

The communicative approach states as a basic principle that language is above all an instrument of communication. In this teaching approach, you are required to take an active role in your learning process and to be able to process information.

The communicative approach is based on an analysis of how you will use French in daily life. The language skills to be acquired based on identified needs are usually worked on in a team:

  • in real situations (e.g., explaining to another student how to go to the secretariat)
  • in simulated situations (e.g., play the role of a person asking a landlord for information about an apartment).

To be able to communicate in French, you must learn:

  • grammar
  • spelling
  • vocabulary, etc.

You must also develop skills in:

  • oral and written comprehension
  • oral and written expression
  • phonetics, etc.

The MICC will supply you with instructional material and you will be asked to use authentic or realistic documents.
