Completing the formalities for starting up a business

To start up your business, you will have to complete a number of formalities, such as deciding on the type of legal entity, registering your company and obtaining the appropriate operating licenses.

You’ll find a list of all the formalities you’ll need to complete for your particular profile in the business start-up section of the Gouvernement du Québec portal, under Services for companies.

Québec enterprise number (QEN)

Businesses can now be easily and promptly identified when they contact a government department or organization such as the Commission de la santé et de la sécurité du travail, the ministère de l’Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l’Alimentation, Emploi-Québec, Revenu Québec or the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec. All you have to do is apply for a Québec enterprise number (QEN) at the Registraire des entreprises.
