Programs or courses lasting six months or less

Even though they are exempt from this requirement, students coming to study in Québec in a program lasting six months or less may apply for a CAQ for studies and then obtain a study permit.

Here are some of the advantages attached to the fact of holding a CAQ for studies and a study permit:

  • children of international students holding a CAQ for studies are exempt from paying fees for primary and secondary instruction
  • applications to renew a CAQ for studies and a study permit can be made in Québec if the person intends to continue his or her studies
  • holders of a study permit may work on campus without a work permit if they are enrolled in a full-time program
  • holders of a study permit can apply for a work permit to complete an off-campus internship that is an integral part of their program of study in Québec.
